Uganda

A landlocked country in East Africa with a turbulent history of brutal dictatorships, Uganda has since evolved, opening its doors to the world to discover what Churchill once called the ¨Pearl of Africa¨.

Uganda has a diverse landscape that includes the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains on the western border as well as the great Lake Victoria which is more like an ocean, providing excellent island hopping opportunities. This country is home to a flourish of wildlife that includes chimpanzees and rare birds such as the Shoebill.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a well-known, remote mountain gorilla sanctuary and is one of the last places on earth to see these elusive and majestic primates. Although the mountain gorilla is certainly the star attraction, the ¨Big 5¨ can also be found in Uganda.

Uganda has so much to offer. Murchison Falls National Park in the northwest is known for its impressive 43m-tall (140 foot) waterfall. The National Park also provides guests with the opportunity to experience some of the best five-star white water rafting along the legendary Nile River. For an out of this world awakening the Rwenzori Mountains or ‘The Mountains of the Moon’ will transfer visitors to a magical, fairy-tale state and make you believe in all things enchanting.

Uganda has plenty of luxurious lodges to choose from, all of which consist of highly organized and expertly guided safaris, whether it’s by 4x4s, walking, trekking or even by boat. For those who love fishing, the Nile River makes for an excellent fishing location and visitors can try their luck reeling in the Nile Perch, a freshwater fish that can grow up to 2 meters and weigh more than 200 kg’s or 440 pounds.

From March to May, Uganda experiences non-stop rainfalls. Iconic Journey’s recommends visiting Uganda between June to mid-October or from early December to March. Contact Iconic Journey’s now so we can help craft your dream safari.
